I have attended several Crow Indian Fair & Pow Wow events. However, the 1997 Pow Wow was the best hands down. Why?

Normally, the annual Crow Indian Fair starts the third week of August on land surrounding the Little Big Horn River near Billings, Montana, Crow Fair is very similar to that of a County Fair. It serves as a venue for the display of the region's arts and culture, from crafts to physical feats. There are contests for best jam, butter, and household goods, and activities such as woodcutting and games, often involving cash prizes.

The biggest attraction is always the Crow Fair Parade that starts the days events. Then, the closing of the day with costume dancing by all ages. The 1997 Crow Fair video features the Taiwanese dancers. This was their only appearance in the United States that year. Their colorful costumes and beautiful dancing add another culture to this Fair and Pow Wow tradition.

How about some history of how and why the Fair was invented.

The Crow Fair was created in 1904 by an Indian government agent to bring the Crow Tribe of Indians into modern society. It welcomes all Native American tribes of the Great Plains to its festivities, functioning as a "giant family reunion under the Big Sky." Indeed, it is currently the largest Northern Native American gathering, attracting nearly 45,000 spectators and participants.
